ADR/RID Workplace Training

What does your company gain from ADR/RID training?

  • Protection against penalties – the absence of training is a direct basis for an ITD fine, for both the company and the responsible person.
  • A programme tailored to your company – not a generic template, but training shaped around your materials and roles.
  • Online from PLN 500 per group – one flat fee for the whole team, no venue or travel costs.
  • Certified ADR/RID adviser – training delivered by a specialist with practical knowledge of industry realities.
  • Full documentation – training confirmation ready to present during inspections by regulatory authorities.

What is ADR/RID workplace training?

ADR/RID workplace training is mandatory training for employees who, as part of their duties, come into contact with dangerous goods – regardless of industry or role. It is not exclusively for drivers. The obligation covers warehouse staff, persons preparing transport documentation, those packaging and labelling consignments, and those supervising transport processes.

The obligation to carry out this training derives from Article 14 of the Act on the Carriage of Dangerous Goods of 19 August 2011 (consolidated text: Journal of Laws 2024, item 643, as amended) and covers both road transport (ADR) and rail transport (RID).

EHS Consulting provides comprehensive ADR/RID workplace training services – from needs assessment and scope definition, through the training itself, to the issuance of documentation confirming its completion.

Legal basis

Art. 14 of the Act of 19 August 2011
on the Carriage of Dangerous Goods
Journal of Laws 2024, item 643

Applies to road transport (ADR) and rail transport (RID)

Who is subject to the workplace training obligation?

All employees who, as part of their professional duties, have direct or indirect contact with dangerous goods are subject to this obligation. In practice, this includes, among others:

  • drivers carrying out road transport of dangerous goods,
  • warehouse employees involved in loading and unloading,
  • persons responsible for preparing transport documentation,
  • employees responsible for packaging and labelling consignments,
  • persons supervising processes related to the carriage of dangerous goods.

If you are unsure whether your employees are subject to this obligation – now is a good time to make sure. The absence of training can result in serious consequences during an ITD or other regulatory inspection.

How is our training conducted?

We take a tailor-made approach – no templates or ready-made schemes. We know that every company operates differently, transports different materials and faces its own operational challenges. That is why we start with a conversation. We learn about your business, identify the dangerous materials involved, establish your role as a participant in the carriage of dangerous goods, and analyse the needs of individual roles. On that basis, we create training tailored to the realities of your company – practical, specific and immediately ready to apply in day-to-day work.

Training formats and pricing

We offer two formats of ADR/RID workplace training, adapted to the size of the company and its organisational possibilities.

Training delivered remotely, lasting approximately 1.5–2 hours. Covers the entire group of employees simultaneously – no need to arrange a venue, reschedule shifts, or organise travel.

Fixed rate of PLN 500 regardless of the number of participants – particularly cost-effective for larger teams. The programme is always tailored to the specific dangerous materials the group works with.

Training conducted directly at the client’s premises, in the participants’ working environment. The duration and subject matter are adapted to the group’s needs and size.

Fee from PLN 800 + travel costs, to be agreed individually following confirmation of location and scope.

Many business owners put off the question of ADR training until an inspection or incident occurs. This is a mistake that can cost far more than the service itself.

  • Financial penalties – the absence of training is a direct basis for an ITD fine,
  • Safety – dangerous materials pose real risks of fires, explosions and chemical contamination,
  • Peace of mind during inspections – up-to-date training documentation eliminates stress during an inspection.

Trained employees make fewer mistakes – which translates into fewer stoppages, complaints and operational problems.

  • Better work organisation – knowledge of procedures means fewer mistakes during loading and documentation,
  • Partner audits – more and more companies verify that their suppliers comply with ADR regulations,
  • A signal of professionalism – up-to-date training is evidence of responsible management.

No. Workplace training as referred to in Section 1.3 of ADR covers persons involved in the carriage of dangerous goods, but does not apply to drivers transporting dangerous goods in vehicles required to display orange hazard warning panels.
For such drivers, the regulations require completion of an ADR course at an authorised training centre, followed by a state examination organised by the marshal of the voivodeship, upon which the driver receives an ADR driver training certificate.

The Act does not specify a fixed period of validity; however, the regulations require training to be updated whenever a significant change occurs: new types of dangerous materials, changes to an employee’s scope of duties, or changes to ADR/RID regulations (which are revised every two years). In practice, we recommend periodic training – every 2 years or with each significant regulatory update.

Yes – the regulations do not prescribe a specific format for workplace training, only that it be carried out and documented. Online training delivered by a certified ADR/RID adviser, concluded with a certificate of attendance, meets the statutory requirements to the same extent as on-site training.

ITD inspectors may impose a penalty pursuant to Annex 1 to the Act on the Carriage of Dangerous Goods, which contains a table of violations and penalty amounts. Penalties apply to both the employer and the driver. In the case of repeated violations, the matter may be referred to court. ITD inspections have the right to cover not only vehicles on the road, but also company premises and warehouses.
