Frequently Asked Questions

PIP inspections primarily apply to:

  • employers, and — with regard to OHS and legality-of-employment checks — also entrepreneurs who are not employers but for whom work is performed by individuals, including self-employed persons, regardless of the legal basis for that work;
  • entities providing job placement, personnel consulting, career counselling, and temporary employment services.

The tasks of the National Labour Inspectorate include, among others:

  • supervising and inspecting compliance with labour law, in particular OHS regulations and principles, provisions on the employment relationship, remuneration and other benefits arising from employment, working time, leave, employee rights related to parenthood, and the employment of minors and people with disabilities;
  • inspecting the legality of employment, other paid work, and business activity, as well as compliance with the obligation to:
  • inspecting the legality of employment, other paid work, and work performed by foreigners;
  • inspecting products placed on the market for compliance with occupational safety and health requirements set out in separate regulations;
  • supervising compliance with the conditions of use of substances specified by the European Chemicals Agency under Article 9(4) of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, within the scope of its competence;
  • taking action to prevent and eliminate hazards in the working environment, in particular:
  • investigating and analysing the circumstances and causes of workplace accidents, and inspecting the application of measures to prevent them,
  • analysing the causes of occupational diseases and inspecting the application of measures to prevent them,
  • initiating research work in the field of labour law compliance, in particular occupational safety and health,
  • initiating projects concerning labour protection in individual farming,
  • providing advice and technical information aimed at eliminating threats to employees’ life and health, as well as advice and information on labour law compliance,
  • undertaking preventive and promotional activities aimed at ensuring compliance with labour law;
  • cooperating with environmental protection authorities in inspecting employers’ compliance with regulations on preventing environmental hazards.

You need to prepare for the inspection, but this is often difficult to do on your own. Every business has many things that need to be coordinated right now, and an upcoming PIP inspection is an additional burden. Of course, ensuring proper OHS conditions in the workplace is the employer’s responsibility, which is why, if a company employs 100 or more people, the employer is required to establish an in-house OHS department. In that case, the OHS specialist within that department will handle the PIP inspection preparation.

However, if your workplace has fewer than a hundred employees and therefore has no in-house OHS department, it’s worth using an external specialist for this purpose. That’s why, at your request, we’ll carry out a one-off audit that reveals all irregularities related to occupational safety and health. We’ll issue an independent assessment of your company’s OHS status and point out the shortcomings the National Labour Inspectorate would flag.

Our fee for the consultation depends largely on the scope of the inspection and the existing OHS conditions. For example, if a serious accident occurred at your workplace during particularly hazardous work and actions are needed such as training employees or drawing up safe work instructions, our fee will be higher due to the amount of time involved. The opposite can also be true — if only a single document is missing, such as an occupational risk assessment, we can prepare it quickly and at a lower cost.

When preparing an offer for a client, we take into account: the complexity of the matter, the scope of the external authority’s inspection, the state of the OHS documentation, and the number of actions required. Our fee covers a visit to your company, an audit of OHS documentation and employee personnel files, preparation of a report, presence during the PIP inspection, and further consultations after the inspection.
